Because both are generally infantry weapons, not designed for cavalry charges which a lance specifically is. I'd suggest you be prepared for a lot of "nerfs" like this as the devs go through and make things more varied and unique and less copy/paste jobs. If you're still early in the game you just have to wait for the prosperity to rise, this takes time.
